About Kathleen "Kate" Ackley...
Aunt Ruth put a needle in my hand at the age of 8, and I am still cutting big pieces of fabric into smaller pieces and stitching them together. A degree in Clothing and Textile Design led me to a career in Costume Design in University and Community theaters. I started quilting in the Early 1970's, but found that I loved all crafts, especially calligraphy. I then taught the art of beautiful writing for ten years. Convinced that I enjoyed teaching more than just Calligraphy, I returned to quilting during the middle 1980's.
A few years ago I was able to retire from my job as an advertising manager for a manufacturing company. Retirement certainly did not mean slowing down! After teaching quilting through adult education for the last ten years, I am now in Texas in "real' retirement on five acres of oak trees. I am still lecturing and teaching the wonderful art of quilting as I share in the joys of new and old friendships and adventures.
